Exam Simulator: Just Like the Real Test

See if you're ready for the real thing with the CNA Exam Simulator. Same number of questions, presented the same way as the Nurse Aide exam.

What is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam?

The CNA exam is a certification test for those who wish to become a certified nursing assistant. The CNA exam will consist of two parts: a written portion (also known as a knowledge exam) and a clinical skills test. The written test is intended to measure a candidate's mastery of nursing assistant knowledge and skills. The test consists of 60 multiple choice questions, with 90 minutes to complete them. The clinical skills test requires candidates to perform nursing tasks in front of an evaluator. You'll be asked to demonstrate five duties in 30 minutes.

Who administers the CNA exam?

Every state in the USA administers their own CNA certification exam. Usually it's a two-part exam consisting of a written knowledge test (a set of multiple-choice questions) and a skills evaluation. Depending on your state of residence, your CNA exam will likely be administered by one of the following third-party exam certification providers:

Pearson Vue's National NNAAP

The National Nurse Assistant Assessment Program (NNAAP) is the nation's largest CNA exam assessment program. Their written knowledge exam is 70 multiple-choice questions with four answer options.

You can take the NNAAP Nurse Aid exam in the following jurisdictions: Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, DC, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington.

Prometric's CNA Exam (Nurse Aide exam)

You'll be given 90 minutes to complete a 60-question written examination, and 30-40 minutes - to complete the clinical skills exam.

If you live in one of the following states, your CNA exam will most likely be administered by Prometric: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma.

HeadMaster (D&S Diversified Technologies)

Just like the other test providers, the Headmaster CNA exam is administered in two stages: a written exam and a manual skills exam. The written CNA examination is 75 multiple-choice questions while the clinical skills exam is 3-4 selected skills.

The following states use HeadMaster to administer their CNA exam: Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin.

Scientifically proven

Research shows that studying in the same way that you’ll be tested can increase your self-assurance, as well as your ability to focus on the test questions.

We’ve designed our website training course to duplicate the exam experience, so it becomes familiar.

Our CNA practice tests cover all the patient care topics and personal care skills that are taught in traditional nursing programs and included in the official exam - without any classroom instruction.

Exam experience, duplicated

Our CNA Certification Exam Simulator is an effective way to practice for the actual exam.

Same number

The Exam Simulator has the same number of questions that you’ll have on the test. No surprizes on the practical exam, either.

Same kind

We’ve also made sure that the questions are the same kind — in fact, some are identical!

Detailed rationales

If you get a question wrong, you’ll get an in-depth explanation of the answer.

CNA Certification Test Tips

70 multiple-choice questions

10 non-scored pre-test questions

2 hr time allotted to take the test

There will be questions in the following categories:

  • promotion of function and health of residents (health maintenance, psychosocial needs, personal care),
  • role of the nurse aide (communication skills, personal responsibilities, roles of team members),
  • basic nursing care the nurse aide provides (acute emergencies, routine needs, etc.),
  • promotion of safety (comfort and safety, infection prevention, common injuries),
